The  Last day...
By- Sachika Taneja

It was the final day for our presentation, for our module. This was the actual day where we could show how much we have actually worked in this 5 week long module.

This was the day our research , all critical design parameters, our opportunity area, our design solution, our sketches, everything was assessed.
As everyone says "we should be calm and relaxed before the presentation" but it was the exact opposite for me.
I was so worried and tensed. While few of our group  members were just rushing to get the print outs while some were busy with the final touch up and the display.

Finally, it was the time to present to our tutors ( Prachi ma'am, Neha ma'am and Kunal sir).

OUR FINAL OUTCOMES...

Final display menu
Final Poster
Final Menu
Graffiti
We began our presentation ... every group member was individually presenting
to the tutors that the work they had done in the past few weeks from the starting to
the end and soon it was over...

Overall we got a good feedback, they liked our presentation, they appreciated our individual plus group efforts, they liked that we had followed a proper process form the beginning to the end. They like Graffiti the most. They said it could have been more visually represented, the graphics and the posters could have been better but it's ok at the end we all were happy which maters the most.

Yeah! Finally  its over..

Menu Planning...
By- Sachika Taneja

As I was working on the display menu , honestly I was so confused and irritated initially... because I was just keep on designing the layout for the menu but couldn't decide which one would be the best then after a while I  thought we need proper planning , we need to actually think and plan out the menu .
Layout 1

Layout 2
After giving some time to it we came up with few decisions like it it should be popularity wise, only unaware dishes should have the pictures, we should design icons for veg , non-veg chef special, spicy very spicy , we should design the background , should categorize it properly and should decide the font altogether.

After so many hit and trial method, I came up with this..

Overall, I was happy and satisfied with the menu.
How Does Our Research Leads to Design Ideas...
By- Sachika Taneja

After doing exactly what we thought and discussing with with Prachi ma'am we came up with more new ideas , we got to know how to refine our ideas and what was still lacking in our overall journey.

We got a new idea of doing graffiti on floors so that it will even attract the customers and at the same time his unaware dishes would be aware by writing their names or just making their pictures on the floor.
Graffiti area

We decided to work on two types of menu ( display menu and the paper menu) , we started thinking more deeply how to use his exterior which could even spice up the whole ambience and side by side we can get our design solution for the same.

Existing menu
We started thinking that we should increase the counter sale as in walk in customers or home delivery customers.? what would be the potential of each one could grow? what will be his customer mapping? and so on..
Customer mapping

we all worked..worked n worked ..

obviously there was lot of mess going on.. again and again every one was changing their designs , there layouts, making it more refine, there were so many rejections.

Rejections

Rejections
But overall it was ok not so good so we thought to make it more refine and as a designer keeping few things in our mind like the color harmony, the main area which should be highlighted and specially the concept of balance. So we worked further and refined our ideas.

Moving Ahead and Finalizing  the Opportunity Area...
By- Sachika Taneja

After our presentation was over, we started working on the guidelines given by ur tutors. We found out we really need to move further in finding our opportunity area so that we could lead our research to the next level.
After so many visits and research to the noodle court , we found out many opportunity areas we could work on like there was lack of cleanliness, lack of promotional activities, the exterior was quite dull, his menu lacks description of the dishes, lack of storage and there was poor seating arrangement.

lack of storage

poor seating arrangement

lack of cleanliness

As a group we finalized  to work on making his "unaware dishes aware" to the people.
We thought of many possible ways like firstly we decided to redesign the menu , then  we thought of making the posters and signage and the last but not the least doing campaign.

So, we divided the duties like -
Khusboo and Sejal were doing the  posters and signage.
Shivranjani was visually representing everything through comic strip
and Raghavi and I was working on the menu.

Deciding what all we can do
And everyone was just hoping that whatsoever we have decided should come up well.

Let's Do It!
(working on the critical design parameters)

After indentifying the problem we decided to plan out an interesting solution that can promote his unaware dishes.
Decided to work on these above parameters

  • Exterior Awareness and Graffiti by  :Shivranjani
  • Redesigning of Menu by :Raghavi & Sachika
  • Posters and Signages  by : Sejal & khushbu
Major Problem!!

Identification Of the Problem!

After doing research, we worked on many opportunity areas and we find out many problems like lack of clanliness, lack of seating arrangement, lack of storage and unawareness of many unpopular dishes.
My group decided to do a proper "Customer Mapping" thereafter.

We targeted two major options, after doing customer mapping. One was the counter sales customer and other was the home delivery customer.

We opted for Counter Sales Costumer

My final outcome

I decided to design a new menu for noodle court which shall promote the various unaware dishes available at their place.
I had various ideas in my mind regarding the layout, the design, its content, the look and appearance, etc.
Starting with the background I wanted a background which is not really loud as that was not my center of attraction, as i wanted the text to be highlighted. So i chose this art work (dry pastels on cartridge paper)done by my group member Sachika. Using digital skills the opacity was reduced in order to bring out the text.

Folding in the final menu

Explorations
After going through various formats and trying them out on illustrator I finally decided to make a folding menu. I made a sample folding menu also for it.
Then i started working on its various details like which text to choose which font color to select and further on. For the first page I selected a monochrome image which I myself clicked for the cover page of the menu. The front page is such that the viewers attention directly goes onto the bright logo.
The main concept of my menu was to highlight the unaware dishes and to do that I selected the unaware dishes from their menu and looked for their images online. Also I thought of giving a small description of those dishes. Sachika helped in simplification of the menu, like various dishes were placed under wrong heads, we rearranged them accordingly, and also thought of adding a few heads such as 'Direct from the sea' for the sea food and 'Authentic Thai' for Thai cuisine .

We also thought of making icons to gave indications in a better manner which would further simplify the menu. Shivranjani designed the icons present below for our final menu on illustrator.

The Final Day.

The day of the final. presentation had arrived. From the morning till the presentation did not begin we were running up and down to the library for the printouts for our display work. The presentation began. And one by one we started explaining the work we did and how we did it. From the start to the end. Our presentation was marked by Prachi ma'am, Neha ma'am and Kunal sir.

The teachers told us that a little more could have been done with the posters but on overall we were appreciated for our overall work. They told us that initially we were confused with the work but we got on to the right track and they even said that our group effort was visible in our work.

We all were so relieved after giving the final presentation that we forgot to click the picture of our display.

Finally the module ended !!
Final outcome

As mentioned earlier that Prachi mam made me aware with the problems in the posters. So I further worked upon my posters.

These are the final posters.

Critical Appreciation (The Starting)

This was the first blog which I posted. I went through the entire blog and found few mistakes.
- The written as 'the'
- we saw few shops instead of 'we visited few shops'
- We had written as 'we ha'

These are the few mistakes which i noted. This blog was written to tell about the first and and about the project also. The title of the blog is appropriate which will explain the readers about the blog.

Work has started !!

Now the time had come when we needed to push ourselves and start working. And at the end of this week we had to give a mock presentation because the next week (5th week) we had our final presentation. I made a few posters.

These were the few initial posters which I made. I did more explorations.

After the presentation, mam told me the problem with the posters. She told that principles of design were not not visible in the posters. So I decided to rework on my posters.
